It is believed that the Citadel was commissioned in the mid fourteenth century by none other than the king himself as his personal spiritual place of worship and prayer. Allegedly, it took a workforce of one thousand engineers, crafters, magicians and clerics over five years to gouge the structure from the living rock of the giant’s back. Since the King supposedly identified the giant’s back’s peak as “the holiest place of all the holy places” Pharosee today are still keen to point out their elevated state of enlightenment.
The citadel became a famous site of pilgrimage for the faithful from all over Fictionaria and over time a sprawling settlement developed itself on the mountainside around it.
The settlement grew larger and soon evolved into a bustling city, forming a hub of commerce and services for neighbouring towns and villages. When the Holy Elevation took place in 1885 the king commissioned the citadel to be unearthed entirely and fitted onto a hoovering floating-district so that it may be even closer to the gods and not huddle on the mountainside like a criminal.
When the Church of Xii was formed in 1900, the King proclaimed the Citadel to be it’s official seat from there on out — centre of faith, religious stronghold and residence to the Proxus, protector of the faith.
