Catherinbeborough is a council governed, independent mining city, free of DUF occupation, harbouring humans and monsters alike.
The town was named after the goddess of mining and the first major’s wife. When the loose settlements around the mining shafts at Old Man’s Reaches grew larger in number and population, they were appointed Boroughship and the guild head was sworn into office as borough mayor.
Later on, monsters, suited much better for mining than humans, took over the mining activities and specialized themselves, while human inhabitants took care of the evergrowing infrastructure, and progressed trade relationships with cities all over Fictionaria.
Many years later the mayor became obsolete when in 2076 the DUF took over and installed their office to govern the city.
In the winter of 2081, a resistance-led riot, later known as the Bloody New Years Eve, took place, which placed an end to the DUF occupation. A council was then put in place who declared it’s independence from the DUF and the King alike. It consisted of representatives from various guilds, townships and interest groups, as well as the former mayor who had a great part in the revolution.
Today’s Catherinborough is a colorful place, filled with magique and all sorts of beings. While most of it’s income is made by the hard working, level-headed coal miners living in the run-down districts beneath the mountains, a great deal of Gelders is streaming in through the lately booming gambling and pleasure districts popping up all over town. Because of them, syndicates and outfits established their place in the city, adding the thrill of endangerment to tourists and venturers who come from all over Fictionaria.
